Bio

The Basics

Character Name: Ethan Urquhart.
PB: Chester Bennington.

Age: Twenty-one.
Birthday: May 14, 1979.
Wand: Twelve and a half inches, willow, swishy, hair of a Sphinx.
House in School: Slytherin.
Bloodline: Fourth generation pureblood.

Political View: More of a pacifist than anything, if Ethan was forced to picking a side, he'd go the easy route and pick to stand next to the pureblood supremacists. While muggle supporters certain have their own type of discrimination against those that don't agree with their views - most of them wouldn't harm or kill you for it, and self-preservation runs higher than most anything else. However the flaw in that thinking is Ethan's own bloodline. A pureblood by most standards, his family tree is still riddled with "impure" blood.

Appearance

Height: 6ft.
Weight: Between 180 and 200, Ethan is on the strong side.
Eyes: Black, needs glasses but doesn't always wear them even though he should. He has a very blank, almost ominous stare because there's rarely any kind of emotion behind them. He has permanent dark circles under his eyes from a rather severe case of insomnia he treats with a multitude of sleeping potions.
Hair: Dark brown, almost black, and kept cut short. If he were to grow it, it'd be curly. He goes through phases on how it's style or how it's cut. Ranging from conservative to almost wild.
Build: Size-wise he'd be considered slightly bigger than average, but Ethan has a strong build. There's nothing thin or lanky about him, but he's definitely not a stocky guy.
Dress Style: Ethan's first concern is comfort, followed by anything dark in colour; he's very fond of black, greys, and dark browns. Money isn't a luxury that he's too familiar with, so he's never had the opinion of being very picky with what he wears. Even if he did, he wouldn't know where to even begin with dressing himself like many of the upper class wizards.

Basic Physical Description: Ethan isn't a small guy, he's tall and has some bulk to him. Not enough to be intimidating on its own, but enough to have others not question that he's capable of physical force. He has an angular face with a very defined jaw, and a curious mix of traits that are uncommonly attractive, but only when considered. His body is composed of very distinct features, but overall his appearance is relatively forgettable, yet unique at the same time.

Defining Marks: A few relatively minor scars here and there, mainly from playing Quidditch when he was younger. There's one particularly nasty looking scar along his left side from a rough broom accident as a child, which covers almost the entire length of his torso. Given his interest in profession it's not surprising that he's littered with tattoos. The bulk of which are covered by his clothes, but he has striking flames on his forearms that move and slowly change colours.

Personality

Incredibly artistic, Ethan has the ability to create beautiful – or terrible if that's his goal – things in whatever form he chooses. His forte is drawing, both moving and still art, which was the catalyst for his choice in profession. He's an interesting mix of qualities that, in most people, would make him a very pleasant person to be around.

Ethan is endlessly patient, and when the right situation presents itself, he has an unsuspecting amount of determination. He's surprisingly nonjudgmental, taking things, and people, as they are, uncaring of how obscure, different, or even just plain they might be. He's a tactile person on most occasions, and is capable of holding an interesting conversation on just about any topic.

He's not a violent person, and it takes a great deal to get him to that point but once he does the effects are devastating. Thankfully, though, that's something very few have ever, or will ever, bear witness too.

His weaknesses lie within the fact he never cares enough to try. He has no drive in life, no push to move him forward. He's incredibly lazy when the right mood strikes him, and isn't a very dependable person. More often than not he'll pull through, but he has a hard time thinking of anything as "important", which frequently leads to procrastination, or brushing things off as if they were nothing.

He is very withdrawn and very secretive, and likes himself that way. His mind is his own, and prefers that no one tries to poke around in it. He knows nothing of the word "loyalty" and would sell anyone out at the drop of a hat. Untrusting, and untrustworthy, but only to the extent of what's valuable to him, which honestly isn't much.

Ethan is a very physical person. Not necessarily in the sexual way, he just relies heavily on his sense of touch. He's the type of person that has to pick something up, touch it, study it up close from all possible angles before he truly understands it, before he's comfortable with it, before he can form his own opinion on it. So much, in fact that he's quite incapable of dealing with anything intangible.

In spite of his heavy creative streak, Ethan is a very methodical and logical person. Reason is very important to him, which is most likely why he excels on formula based magic like transfigurations and potions.

His sole purpose in life is simply to make a living, and that's just fine with him. He has no great pursuits, no questions about life, or any great message he wishes to project – politically, spiritually, or anything else. He's there, everyone is there and that's enough to sate him. He lives his life mostly in the mundane world, because Ethan doesn't deal well with anything that's outside of his comfort zone, and when pushed he fights back, but usually at the wrong thing.

Certainly not one to believe the things other people say without his own research, the "blank slate" that he gives everyone could be considered a good trait, if he didn't think so low of people for even the slightest discrepancies. Take the Malfoys for instance – up until Draco had come to Hogwarts, Ethan would shrug the big name off and that would be the end of it. But meeting the youngest Malfoy left a devastating impression on him – no one should think such an obscene amount of themselves and their family. True, he was swimming in money, which made influence and power very easy to obtain, but Ethan was never really impressed by anyone who would throw money at something to make it better. Ethan also came to the conclusion that sometimes, it seemed, like the more money someone had, the more worthless they really were. But Ethan wasn't stupid, those thoughts would never vocalize.

Psychology

Extrovert/Introvert: Ethan is about as introverted as a person can be. He tends to be quiet, and keeps to himself, not because of any social defect, or shyness on his part, it's more of an arrogance thing. Subtle, so much that perhaps even he wouldn't notice, but in his mind no one deserves his attentions. His passivity is created by a feeling that no one is worth the passion he might feel if he tried to express it.
Boggart Would Be: A broom. After a particularly nasty flying accident, that almost left him with permanent physical damage, Ethan has been more than reluctant to get on one, and would be very happy to never see one again.
Patronus Would Be: Ethan cannot produce a corporal Patronus. If he were, it'd take the shape of a boar – a symbol of strength and fight. On a personal note, his grandfather's animagus form was a boar.

Sexuality

Ethan's mother happened to be a very promiscuous woman while Ethan was growing up. The fact that his father was hardly around inevitably meant that some rather colourful characters where let into Ethan's home, which subsequently tainted any normal sexual behaviour that would have developed as he grew. At a young age he simply accepted everything as being normal, and on his life went, never thinking twice about any of it. And perhaps that has everything or nothing to do with the fact that he's bisexual. He doesn't really care. Ethan is a bit of a sensory whore, something of a hedonist when it comes to sex, uncaring of the form that any pleasure would come from.

He has no real desire to ever settle down, not necessarily in that "permanent bacholor" way, but more in the "can't imagine wanting to spend so much time around one person" way. He's never had anything that could really resemble a relationship, his experience with anything related to emotions is very stunted and it shows. But that's just fine with him.

Lifestyle

Occupation: Tattoo artist, specializing in both still and moving designs.
Residence: Ethan lives on the outer edges of Hogsmeade, not too far from The Hog's Head.
Financial Status: lower middle class. Ethan is financially stable but just barely, but could never afford anything other than himself. Money, and the things it can buy, doesn't mean much to him.

Family

Parents: Emmanuel and Renee Urquhart. The effects of the war hit home when Emmanuel was violently attacked during a raid – the Urquhart's resided in a highly populated area of half-bloods and muggle born – and was subsequently killed.
Siblings: Ethan is an only child. He was an accident, and his mother made sure that another one never happened.

Ethan has an interesting relationship with his family in the fact that he doesn't really have one at all. His father, recently deceased from the war, was someone he never really knew. Always away on "business" Ethan knew nothing of his father, him never being apart of his life, and didn't feel much loss when he had died.

While he was still living with his parents while he attended school, Ethan had a very vocal relationship with his mother, Renee. They couldn't speak with one another without arguing about something or other, typically instigated by Renee, but not always, and the day Ethan moved from his home was the day he ceased any and all contact with the woman.

She, at best, would fall under the category of a trophy wife, pretty to look at, but that was all. She was a cruel person that never should have become a mother. It's a wonder as to why she ever married Ethan's father, but he suspected that it had something to do with him – his parents were very young when he was born. Emmanuel was not rich enough to sustain Renee's tastes, she bought things the family couldn't afford and blamed it solely on Ethan when money became a severe issue, which was quite often.

Renee's opinion of the war changed depending on the person she was holding a conversation with, which meant her political standing was never solid enough to rub off, or to force upon, Ethan. In fact, Renee didn't really care was Ethan thought at all, or what he did with his life. As long as he was out of her way all was well with the world.

History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time

Ethan attended his first year of Hogwarts in 1990, and was sorted into Slytherin. He was a decent student, but his marks were all over the place. He excelled in both potions and transfigurations, while other classes were average, and the rest he was just barely squeezing by. Ethan has a very difficult time making himself do things he has no interest in, and it reflected in his grades, and participation within the classroom.

In 1993 he tried out for the Slytherin quidditch team and landed a spot as a reserve chaser. He was actually quite talented and showed promise to be a great player, his reluctance to Slytherin tactics of brutality kept him from being fully on the team. In his last year, however, he was pulled up from the reserves and made the actual chaser. However a particularly violent accident involving a bludger just before the Gryffindor match has kept him off the pitch, and also off a broom since then.

1996 was his last year at Hogwarts, defined by Dumbledore's death. As surprising as it was, Ethan was more thankful that it happened in his last year, not wanting to wonder what would happen the following year. Even still, as crazy as he thought Dumbledore was, he never minded him as headmaster. Ethan had always respected his head of house, Snape, mainly because he never took any crap from the students. He didn't quite know what to think when it was released the Snape had been the one to kill Dumbledore because where the hell did that come from?

When war fully broke out, Ethan blamed it on Potter, because from his experience at school, anything big and dramatic that happened was his fault. But the war, ironically enough, presented many opportunities for Ethan. Supplies always being in demand, provided Ethan with work on the side of the Order. He spent much of his time hunched over a cauldron brewing potions. Healing salves, strengthening solutions, a multitude of antidotes, and anything else that might be useful.

Ethan sort of fell into his current profession, tattooing, towards the end of the war when a friend wanted him to "just try it out" to cover up a series of ugly scars along his back. As it turned out he had a knack for it and came into an apprenticeship in Hogsmeade where he later moved when he became the main artist at the small shop. For the past two years he's hosted a tent at the Hogsmeade Carnival offering real and temporary tattooing.
